I really enjoy living in Argentina. As I begin to explore its wonderful cities, I want to have a place to share my photos and thoughts with you. This is that place! I hope that you enjoy my offerings. As Montevideo is just across the river, as close as Mar del Plata, I'll include photos of my adventures in Uruguay too.
LaBoca is a colorful, edgy barrio with a charming weekend market and mini tango performances on every corner. Its very touristic, but fun to visit for the variety of local paintings, colorful buildings, the museums, the restaurants, and tango. The Louvre Museum of Paris brought its famous works to the people, strategically displaying copies along the LaBoca Rambla. To view all the photos in this Album, click on the text below any picture.
A colorful, temporary sculpture, representing the Fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989, was assembled along several blocks of Ave De Mayo in Buenos Aires. On the anniversary of the original event, using the domino effect. the wall came down. For me, not only was it dramatic but it was a very emotional experience. It represented an expression of personal freedom, something as an American I have come to fully appreciate through my world travel. The event was culminated by a Carnival like performance with drumming and people dancing in the street.
San Antonio de Areco is a very quaint, historic town located about 2 hours from BsAs. I have visited it for their annual Gaucho Festival at least 6 times and have never been disappointed. Gauchos, working farms in the surrounding areas, come with their families, friends, and horses for a huge Asado and to participate in the local parade. Others would challenge each other in horse riding events as you would expect to find only in a wild west rodeo. In the evening there were folkloric dancing and beers to share, in century-old saloons. The Gauchos tie up their horses in front with few cars to interrupt the magic. A visit to San Antonio de Areco is a trip back in time.
