Day of The Dead Celebration

El Dia de Los Muertos is a Mexican holiday also celebrated in other parts of Latin America. The gathering focuses on prayer and remembering friends and family members who have died.  It occurs on November 1st and 2nd corresponding to the Catholic holidays of All Saint's Day and All Soul's Day. The tradition includes building private altars to honor the deceased, using a baked sugar-flour mix to form skulls and figures as well as displaying marigolds, personal momentous and favorite foods/beverages of the departed. Halloween has little in common with El Dia de Los Muertos though it occurs around the same time of year and possibly was influenced by the Mexican tradition. These are a few photos of the celebration in Buenos Aires.
